We Like it Here Beside the River (standard)

We Like it Here Beside the River marks the 45th year since Gerard Smyth helped to hand-set and letterpress printed his debut collection of poetry,  The Flags Are Quiet (New Writers’ Press), in 1969.

Designed, typeset by hand and letterpress printed by Jamie Murphy, with assistance from Guy Cresswell & Louis Scully, at Distillers Press, NCAD, Dublin.

The artwork has been printed from a magnesium plate after an original drawing made for this book by Donald Teskey.

With help from Gerard, the text has been hand-set in 12, 18 and 22 point Caslon Old Face series 128, Monotype cast at The Whittington Press. The book has been printed on a FAG Swiss Proof 40. The press device printed on the back cover is from a new design by Max Phillips.
