The Devil and Today

This book is based on a series of satirical excerpts from Ambrose Bierce’s ‘The Devil’s Dictionary’. The book revolves around texts originally written at the turn of the 20th Century and illustrates them in a more familiar context taking inspiration from today’s social and political environment. Type used includes 14 point Plantin, 14 point Univers, 36 point Bembo, 6 line Windsor and several Victorian Grotesque typefaces. The illustrations were printed directly from the original linoleum blocks.

Designed, illustrated and printed by Jamie Murphy at The Letterpress Workshop (now Distillers Press) at The National College of Art & Design, April 2006.

Printed in an edition of 25 copies.
